“Giovani in Europa” Association (AGE)

www.agenoline.net

“Giovani in Europa” Association (AGE) was born in June 2001, with the main objective of promoting dialogue between citizens and the European Institutions, in order to better understand the sense of belonging to the European Civilisation and the meaning of the Union.
Such a meaning should not be just economic, but also political and cultural, with deep respect of the various traditions that compose it and from which the Union rose. AGE also aims to deepen Mediterranean culture, as a point of reference and cradle of our Civilisation. Within such a perspective, AGE has taken several groups of young people to the seats of the Institutions that govern us. Among the most relevant visits, we just remind those to the Italian Parliament in Rome, to the European Parliament in Brussels and to the United Nations headquarters in New York. AGE now operates in different realities throughout Italy: its main seat is in Modena and Reggio Emilia, while it has got sections in Naples, Padua and Milan.

Congress of the Poles in the Czech Republic

www.polonica.cz

- as you know, I am a member of the polish minority group in the Czech Republic

- minority organization

- founded 1990, after the fall of communism

- I am a member of its executive organ, which name is Council of the Congress…
9 members, elected for 3 years (I have been elected this year, first as a delegate of my village to the General Assembly of the Congress, and there I have been elected to the Council)

- meeting of the Council once in month, discuss actual topics and voting, settle the resolutions

- Umbrella organization, which includes all 27 registered polish organization in Czech R.
For ex. - Polish Organization for Culture and Education

- photographical
- tourist
- youth
- pensioner
- journalist…….

- all polish organizations in CR made successively, one after another, the access to Congress

Goals

- To preserve the ethnic identity of Poles in the CR

- To have a common representation of polish minority interest in CR - for central governments both in Prague and in Warsaw, as well as for local administration

- Present the needs and expectations of polish minority in Czech and Polish governments

- make from our region a bridge between Czech and Poland

- take care about education - minority school with polish language

Schools are no longer financed directly by state, bud now its up to towns and villages
to finance the schools, minority schools as well. They are more expensive, because there are less pupils. It involves financial problems of the villages and towns, so Congress asks for subsidies from the state.

- editor of only polish newspaper “Voice of the People”, comes out 3 times a week

- enforce the right to have the bilingual names of the cities and streets.

But it must be financed not by state, but by individual villages and they are not very keen to pay for it, because they think there are more important things, which we need to have paid.

Sources of financing

- Ministry of Culture in CR and Poland,
- European fond “Phare”,
- Association “Wspólnota Polska”(Polish Community)

A Short History of Cornwall
Cornwall has been inhabited since the stone age, but in approximately 2000BC there was a massive migration of Celtic tribes into the British Isles. The Roman invaded in 54BC and stayed around until approximately AD 410. When the Romans left there were many raids from the Angles, Saxons and Jutes, who eventually came to settle on the eastern side of the Island. The Anglo-Saxon invader’s eventually pushed westwards and various Celtic warrior chieftains fought against the Saxons. One of these Celtic leaders was the legendary King Arthur, who was reputedly born in Cornwall and was temporarily successful in halting
the Saxon advance.
Not long after this, there was a large movement of Cornish people to Amorica (Breton Vyghan or present day Brittany) and the strong links between the two nations have been there ever since.
In AD936 the boarder between Cornwall and the Saxon Kingdom of Wessex was fixed at the River Tamar (where it remains today) and Cornwall’s culture and language remained Celtic. The Normans (who invaded these islands in1066) made Cornwall into a Dukedom, but allowed the Cornish to keep their special privileges, many of which still survive today.
In 1497 the Cornish marched to Blackheath in London in defence of their legal and cultural rights and in 1549 the Cornish fought against the Protestant Reformation, the suppression of their language and cultural heritage. This a battle, many people in Cornwall would argue, is still being fought today.
Between 1642 and 1649, many Cornish people took the side of the king, as in Wales, against the English nationalists.
Cornwall saw the beginnings of the industrial revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries and as its sailors and scientists expanded our knowledge of the world, the Cornish developed the mining industry worldwide. The 1870’s saw the decline of the mining industry in Cornwall, which led to massive emigration to the four corners of the globe.
Cornwall is one of six Celtic countries in north west Europe that include Brittany, Ireland, Isle of Mann, Scotland and Wales.

Pyth yw/What is Mebyon Kernow - the Party for Cornwall?
Summary
Mebyon Kernow - the Party for Cornwall (MK) is a progressive political party, campaigning for greater self-government for Cornwall.
MK have a positive alternative built on four important cornerstones. Our alternative is Cornish, green, left-of-centre and decentralist.
Cornish
Committed to the self-determination of Cornwall, our platform is strongly based around the community, social justice and internationalism.
We want a Cornwall that makes its own way in the world; a Cornwall whose inhabitants do not play down their own identity and which looks to its geography and history as strengths not weaknesses.
Our vision for Cornwall and the world is underpinned by a respect for the diversity of the planet, both the diversity of human cultural traditions such as our languages and the diversity of environments and species - all of which must be protected and enhanced for future generations.
Green
We believe that the economic and environmental crises which affect the world today are global and will require the creation of a truly global consciousness to deal with them and work towards a sustainable economy.
Mebyon Kernow strongly believe that radical changes to the basis of our lives and our lifestyles must be made, to create a more decentralised and self-sufficient economy, with a decentralisation of both economic activity and political processes.
This transformation to a sustainable economy will involve critical decisions and initiatives at both world-wide and European levels (for example, ozone depletion, world hunger and Third World trade), but action at a local level is also vitally important.
Wholesale changes in peoples' lifestyles need to be promoted and new policies must be launched that are aimed at cutting energy consumption and large-scale pollution, while at the same time encouraging more environmentally sound measures such as alternative energy technologies, organic farming and a green integrated transport system.

Left-of-Centre
Mebyon Kernow is still unashamedly Left-of-Centre. We believe that government has a responsibility to intervene to tackle poverty and inequality in our society wherever it can.
Mebyon Kernow is committed to a just and fair society. We will never accept the current trend of blaming the poor for their poverty, condemning the sick for the strain on the under-funded health service, or punishing the unemployed and small businesses for the incompetence of the government.
We are opposed to the privatisation of our community assets to wealthy private investors. We believe that energy, water, rail and vital communications must be publicly owned and publicly accountable.
All people must be enabled to fulfil their full potential in life. This can only be achieved by allowing free and equal access to all education, welfare and healthcare services in society, all of which should be based in the community.
Decentralisation
Fundamental to Mebyon Kernow's plan for Cornwall is the decentralisation of power to Cornwall as a political and economic unit. We as Cornish people should be having a greater say in how Cornwall is governed.
The principle of subsidiarity must be properly invoked to allow decisions to be taken at the most relevant and local level of government as possible. Power must be given to Cornwall as a national community and to all our local communities, so that local people can be empowered to take more responsibility for the quality of life in their communities - a "bottom-up" approach to government rather than the present "top-down" approach.
Decisions must not be imposed on communities by remote and unaccountable agencies, but influenced and changed by members of those communities affected. This localisation of political powers and decision-making will help enable and encourage self-reliant and self-sufficient community development. A legislative Cornish Assembly is needed for greater Cornish self-government.
As with all the small nations and regions of the world, MK believe that people should be taking more responsibility for how their communities are run and making more of the economic decisions relevant to their areas.
European Fee Alliance
MK are members of the European Free Alliance a European political party that united nationalist, regionalist and autonomist parties in the European Union. See www.greens-efa.org/ and http://www.e-f-a.org/ for more information.
MK Bagas Yowynk/Youth Group
The youth movement of MK began to take shape in the latter half of the 1990’s, with the creation of the Youth Branch Coordinator position. The Youth Branch was part of MK and it was difficult to determine how many young people could be included in the Branch. By 2000, the Youth Branch was being jointly coordinated and moves were being made to formalise the movement.
The Coordinators began to make contact with the Youth Officer of Plaid Cymru - the Party of Wales during this time, which gave the movement added impetus and new ideas as to how the Branch could be taken forward.
Today, there are about 30 members of MK-Youth and the movement is still part of the main party. The Youth Leader of MKBY is Rhisiart Tal-e-bot (rhisiart_talebot@hotmail.com).
MK Bagas Yowynk/Youth Group are members of the European Free Alliance Youth (EFAY), which is the youth wing of the EFA. Rhisiart Tal-e-bot is also on the Bureau of the EFAY.
