General Assembly - Budapest 2001

The General Assembly of the ACC was the perfect moment to review our activities of the last year, and have a first common look at those we are already preparing for the next twelve months. At Budapest, the present members could know about the success of the first edition of the Transylvania Community College or look forward to our next activity, the Schools for Europe Community College, that will take place on December in the city of Aabenraa (Denmark). Also, the meeting was a good occasion to know the actual general situation of the ACC, and we want you also to know what exactly are our members preparing and how was the result of the former activities. We have send our members one copy of the minutes, but they are available for everybody on our web site: www.acc.eu.org

Youth 2002

Here, at the office, John continues his work for the project Youth 2002. Some time ago our members received a letter where they could read the aim and the main goal of the project: organize an event a huge amount of young people at 14 different Folk High Schools in Denmark. Right now we have no more concrete information -some of you have already got our leaflet- about what is exactly that the organization of that event is preparing for the participants. There will be more information about the whole project on the web after October, when the project will be released to the public, but if you want to ask us something about it -not very specific, like programs or applications, because the idea is just giving its first steps, but in a general way- you are very welcome to contact us.

Schools for Europe Community College

We want to announce all of you that the Schools for Europe Community College, that will take place at Højskolen Østersøen, Aabenraa, Denmark between the 27th of December 2001 and the 2nd of January 2002, has opened already its application period. You can find the project description and the application form together with the letter we sent to our members during the last days, or on the Internet, in the Activities section of our web site. The idea is to write the draft for a European Act on Community Colleges. We would like to encourage especially those of you active in our committees and/or preparing new projects to apply. We would also like those of you familiar with EU and/or CoE educational and youth policies to consider applying.

European Voluntary Service

We would like to present you the EVS programme. We have two different projects in this frame. One allows the ACC to receive a volunteer to help in the office and the other allows 14 young Europeans to help on the Youth-2002-project. Both projects run from February 1st to approximately August 1st and both are offering very good conditions both for our association and the volunteer. We would like to encourage all of you who could be interested in work for us to ask for more information to our office.

The project description of the last project sounds like this:

Youth 2002 is a European event for young people, which is established to create an objective debate concerning a possible European Constitution. It will be held in connection with Denmark taking over the EU chairmanship in July 2002. A thousand young people from all over Europe will gather at 13 Danish folk high schools to discuss a possible future European Constitution in the light of the challenges and possibilities, which the EU and globalisation pose.

As a preparatory endeavour we will ask 14 young people representing just as many languages to compile data, articles, discussions texts and news from the areas their languages cover. These day-to-day data found through the internet will be placed on a public website as a common ressource. The searches done by the volunteers are done under the headlines of "constitution", "globalization" and "East-enlargement" as these are the common topics of the Youth2002-project. Through this project we will elaborate a common survey of the discussions on these issues as they are taken in the European states.

This will be an important preparation for the persons going to carry throught the main event of the project youth2002 -teachers as well as EVS'es assisting.

The compiled data from the different countries are going to be placed on a public website on conference-rooms created for the purpose. The conferences are going to work from the beginning of 2002 by the help of the young EVS'es. Guaranteeing the viability of the conferences is the 1000 young Europeans and their coordinators/teachers who are going to use the conferences as a main resource during the main event of the Youth2002 in July 2002.
