Success in the Transylvania Community College

The ACC got an enormous success during its last activity in Transylvania (Romania). Thanks to the effort of our local members Agota Illyes and Barna Kovacs, who made a fantastic work organizing the course and coordinating the participants (Szusza, Orsi, Robi, Endre,…), and other members and friends of the ACC in Romania, the Transylvania Community College has been a great impulse for our Association. The 50 young European participants from about 22 European states were very satisfied and spent some unforgettable days in the city of Székelyudvarhely/Odorheiu Secuiesc/Oderhellen. The aim of the course- to stimulate a common European debate on questions and political problems shared by the Europeans- has been achieved and the participants have now a better knowledge of the political and social situation in Transylvania, especially about the situation of the minorities and the perspective of the EU enlargement. The ACC has received a great impulse with the success of this initiative. The organizers got the attention of the media in Hungary and Romania, and the activity had an important coverage, that for us means a better promotion of our activities all over Europe. But even better than the promotion are the ideas for new activities and initiatives that the participants have suggested and that we are going to support. And now, we are bigger. We get some new members. By the moment, we are 156.

New volunteer at the ACC Office

Since the first of July, we have a new volunteer working in our office in Aabenraa. His name is Ruben Marcos, he is from Spain, and is going to help you with all the questions or ideas you want to send to the ACC. He is the first volunteer we have following the EVS (European Voluntary Service) initiative of the European Union, support that makes possible a very good arrangement for both the ACC and the volunteer. Ruben is going to stay here during six months, until the end of December, and during this time, he will be in charge of some administrative tasks and formalities that could make easier the work of the rest of the board, and he will also help you to solve all your doubts, problems or questions about the ACC. You can contact him directly writing to the address ruben@acc.eu.org, or just using the office one: office@acc.eu.org

Be yourself our next voluntary

The work of Ruben Marcos at the ACC office will finish on December and, after that period, we are open to receive another volunteers. Would you like to be the next one? If you are interested, let us explain you something about the EVS, the European Voluntary Service of the European Union. The idea of the European institutions is to allow young people work for NGO's in other countries. To achieve this target, the EU supports the associations and the volunteers who want to make that social work for those organizations who would like to receive somebody, so the conditions for the NGO´s and the volunteers are very good. Most of the expenses of the volunteers during their stay at the chosen country, including for example the travel costs and the board and lodging, are paid and, for those that are not covered, the association gives them some pocket money for their personal expenses. The only condition is to be under 25 and to feel motivated for the work. In the case of the ACC, our agreement with Højskole Østersøen, Aabenraa, Denmark, allow us to offer our possible volunteers board and lodging in the school, where our main office is -those who have been at Højskolen Østersøen know already how good are the conditions there -and a friendly work environment. It´s not so easy to explain the EVS in a newsletter like this one so, if you are interested, please ask us for more information the soonest as possible because there are some formalities and applications that should be solved much time before the beginning of the work. The EVS is not a program just reserved for the countries members of the EU, so the country where you are leaving is not a problem to come and work with us.
