Chat on Peoplesite, Thursday 23rd of November

We would like to make all Europe our "advisory board". Thats why we invite you to meet us at the Peoplesite- chat on Thursday 23rd at 18.45 CET. Find the chat-link at the www.acc.eu.org It will be an on-screen meeting between the participants in the Final Editorial Conference (FEC), ACC-members, Peoplesite-subscribers and others interested. During the week from 19th - 26th of November, 20 young people from all over Europe are invited by the ACC to take part in the editing of an issue of the youth magazine "Das Haus La Maison The House". The issue has as its theme "Schools for Europe". The editorial meeting takes place at the Ryslinge Hxjskole, Denmark. An informal meeting among former minority-course participants and Peoplesite-subscribers has been announced already, and lets keep it informal. From the FEC we would like to tell how far we are with the magazine, but we would also be very happy to receive ideas. Maybe you have something for the pin-board of the magazine, maybe the photo of the millennium, maybe a joke or a new angle to the theme from your particular European spot. At the chat login page please DONT use a password, only a username of your own choice.

CDEJ-Symposium in Strasbourg

At the Symposium on non-formal Education in Strasbourg from 12th to 15th of October, organized by the Council of Europe's European Steering Committee for Youth (CDEJ) and the Advisory Council, Laszlo, Conchi and John were present. We all took part in the working group dealing with the topic "Education for Democracy". The following was the recommandation from this working group to the CDEJ and the symposium: " Information The CoE [Council of Europe]should facilitate access to information concerning education for democracy for young people and for organizations working with young people, through: 1) Identifiying relevant information content sources and resources, such as: -democratic principles -good practice examples -relevant research studies and results -methodologies (T-kit on citizenship) -publications -contacts for help and support 2) A proactive strategy for mutual promotion and dissemination of information above: -make the information available on the CoE-website -stimulating an interactive use of the Internet -make active links to other relevant initiatives, e.g. dialogue on Europe -using other information networks targeted towards young people -disseminating to key individuals and/or institutions in the field. Framework for local action We recommend to the CoE to investigate in co-operation with the EC new types of funding, specifically devoted to local non-formal education activities in the field of democracy, participation and active citizenship. This funding can be based on a system of co-financing by local, national and European bodies; supporting local initiatives on European issues, targeted at pan-European target groups. Methodologies Education for democracy should be practised in both formal and non-formal ways, which are complementary to each other. In any of these ways, education for democracy should reflect democratic rules and values. Besides developing educational materials on democracy, democratic methodologies should also be further developed, promoted and implemented. The "T-Kit on Citizenship" could take this on-board. "
